All About Rehana
Born under the sunny skies of Pasadena, CA, my early years were a whirlwind of cultures and adventures as a first-generation Trinidadian-Pakistani American Muslim family. As the eldest of five siblings and the ringleader of 27 grandkids, my life was never short of excitement. At just two years old, our family moved to the Middle East for my dad’s thrilling work opportunity. There, I attended a British private school and enjoyed summers filled with jet-setting back to the States. We returned to the U.S. permanently in 1991. Growing up in Covina and then Redlands, CA, I developed a deep appreciation for community and education, eventually graduating from Redlands High School.
Twenty-two years ago, I married my best friend, Ismail, and we settled in the Bay Area near his family. Saratoga became our cherished home, where we've built a life brimming with love, learning, and laughter.
The Bay Area was a perfect playground for personal and professional growth. I dove headfirst into volunteer work and proudly became a mother of four. Juggling family life, I pursued my passion for literature, fueled by some incredible professors at De Anza College. This journey led me to UC Berkeley, where I completed my degree in English Literature. One of my proudest moments was walking across the stage at the Greek Theatre, with my two young daughters cheering me on.
My career in marketing, particularly in digital communications and social media, has been enriched by over two decades of extensive volunteer work. I've had the privilege of working at Brocade, Cisco, and ChargePoint, and serving as an Executive Social Media Coach for many C-level tech executives. One of my greatest blessings was working closely with my mentor and former Apple exec, Denise Young, who instilled in me the importance of DEIB in both professional and personal spaces—insights I bring to my campaign today.
From serving as a Teacher’s Assistant at De Anza College to managing club soccer teams and leading PTA programs, I've embraced roles that highlight my commitment to community service and leadership. My involvement with the Saratoga Unified School District's Comprehensive Sexuality Education working group and various PTA positions underscores my dedication to enhancing educational experiences for all students. I'm also a huge supporter of the visual and performing arts, as one of my daughters was very interested in pursuing an acting career and was featured in an episode of the " Disney Magic Bake Off" on the Disney Channel.
In the summer of 2021, we moved to South Rancho during the pandemic to be closer to my parents. It was tough to move during the Covid era and start fresh in a new community, but we were welcomed with open arms, which was heartwarming. We quickly learned how impacted the schools were in this area and had to send my middle schooler to Elk Grove Charter before a spot opened at Albiani Middle School. My son was moved to Sunrise Elementary due to McGarvey Elementary being full and returned to his home school the following year.
Now deeply rooted in the Elk Grove Unified School District, where three of my children attend Pleasant Grove High School and McGarvey Elementary, I continue to be an active volunteer. My roles include serving as a San Juan Soccer Club Team Manager and Operational Board Member, McGarvey Elementary PFO Vice President, and Pleasant Grove High School PTSO Communications Lead. As a National Charity League member and passionate advocate for education and community engagement, I am driven by a desire to create a supportive and inclusive environment for all.
Embarking on this new chapter as a potential elected official feels like a natural progression of my lifelong dedication to education and community service. My diverse experiences have equipped me with the tools to bring a fresh and dynamic perspective to the EGUSD board.
I am passionate about making a meaningful difference for ALL students in our district, ensuring they have access to the resources and opportunities they need to succeed. I believe in transparency, open communication, and the power of community and collaboration. Let's connect and create a positive impact together with empathy, empowerment, and a focus on equity.
Rehana Rehman truly cares about our students and community. She is a dedicated advocate and bridge builder. I trust her to make a positive impact on our school board.
